busta-rhymes

It seems not everyone likes Busta Rhymes new song. His new single, “Arab Money”, got a UK deejay in trouble because of the content. This article doesn’t say what was offensive, but from what I’ve heard an Islamic prayer is used in the hook. From what I know, Busta Rhymes is a Muslim. He’s a member of the Five Percent Nation. Not saying it makes it right just stating a fact.

If you haven’t heard the song yet, here it is. Check out the hook. If you can speak Arabic please let me know what he’s saying:

scarface

I hope Scarface isn’t serious about retiring. If he does at least he’ll go out on top. From his music with the Geto Boys and his solo projects, Brad Jordan always spit fire. He probably will only retire for a couple of years before coming back. I don’t see how a rapper who’s been in the game for almost 20 years keep delivering. If this is the end, we’ll miss you Scarface.

You can almost never go wrong with Nas (I’ll pretend Nostradamus didn’t happen) when it comes to music. He still keep it strong and fresh. Wish other artists could do that. Just keep making that good music Nas.

kanye-west1

Let me be the first to say I don’t think this album, titled 808′s & Heartbreaks, will be a shining moment for Kanye. For all his critics waiting to see him fall, here it is. Why he chose to make this type of album, I don’t know. Maybe his arrogance has clouded his judgement. It does have some good tracks, I’ve posted some under “Download This” and mentioned him on my thoughts about rappers wanting to be singers. This is only one review so I don’t want to jump to conclusions. When you become as big of a star as Kanye, you get to enjoy the adulations of your fans and peers. When you don’t deliver, you must be prepared for the backlash. I hope Kanye has grown some extra skin because the next several months might not be kind to him.

Another song that would sound tight if Kanye rapped instead of sing. Kanye, you’re a rapper, not a singer. Act like it. Oh well, do what you want to do if it makes you feel better. Besides that, I like this song. The production is solid and Jeezy flows well over this one. This album might get panned by critics because the singing isn’t great. At least with A Love Below Andre surprised people with his singing ability. And he didn’t need Auto-Tune. I’m just glad Kanye’s production skills are still on point.

Every time I’m ready to write off Lil Wayne he come back with some fire. The Game should stay focused on making tracks like this and stop all that other craziness. This is a solid track that should have made somebody’s album. Sounds like it might be a LAX (Game’s album) castoff. I don’t know why because this song is definitely radio material.

This is why you don’t talk about crimes in your lyrics. Because somebody is always listening. This idiot rhymed about shooting a guy. The dummy actually named the individual by name in his song. By name. His victim heard the lyrics and recognized the rapper’s voice. He then notified the police. I wish I was making this up. So, to all you aspiring thugs wanting to be rappers, don’t talk about your dirt. Make it up like every other rapper does.

I never felt more prouder to be a citizen of this country when Barack Obama became our president-elect. He was the underdog waging political battle with heavyweights who all but wrote off the smart, but inexperienced senator. They all underestimated him to their detriment. Obama’s victory signaled not only to every American we can move into a different direction, but showed the world we can change. I still can’t believe I’m witnessing history.

The hip hop community has embraced Obama as one of our own because we can relate to his story. Someone who followed their dreams, even when the odds were against them. He studied and learned the political game, mastering the necessary skills to play it better than those who had more “experience”. Obama is the American dream. I love hip hop artists’ enthusiasm for the political process, but please stop making so many songs about Obama or using snippets of him making speeches.

I’m not hating, just being realistic. He is not the messiah. He will not solve all America’s social ills. Obama is taking over the government in the midst of an economic tsunami. He may not be able to accomplish many of his campaign policies. If you as an artist haven’t made your song yet, let it go. You missed out. Nas already took care of it. It’s alright to mention him, but don’t make him the subject of your song. Talk about the need to empower and educate people. Talk about being a proud American and actually meaning it.

Let’s wait until six to twelve months from now and check back with Obama. We still got the inauguration in January. Maybe this is a great time to take our music to another level lyrically. We can take hip hop back to the grassroot level. Obama became president because he took the bottom-up approach. He worked the internet and raised an enormous amount of money. We took back our political system, why not take back our hip hop music?

Just stop making so many Obama songs. I’m sick of it.

Lil Wayne and Baby sharing an intimate moment

I’m not posting this because I like it. It’s just another example of a rapper singing with the AutoTune. I have heard rumors Lil Wayne’s next album will be a Rock one. Just another artist “T-Paining” his voice. It’s an interesting track worth a listening. A preview of what’s to come. I haven’t made my mind up how I feel about this song. This is more about a wait and see approach. Be forwarned; this is a rock song. I just wish the Dj would stop yelling over the song. Just play the track.

the-clipse

If this is the intro, the album is probably gonna be disgusting. The Clipse has always put out quality music. If it wasn’t for label issues that’s plagued their career we would be considering them as one of the greatest groups of all time. I listened to this track twice. It’s that good. I’m going to put in my pre-order for this album. Just gotta figure out when it’s being released. LOL

In a recent article on hiphopdx.com, MF Doom addresses allegations he sends out impersonators to perform at shows in his place. This has been a rumor for sometime. All I know is he (or an imposter) was a no-show when the Rock the Bells tour came through my area.

Boycott this fool...

Boycott this fool...

I understand there is a generation gap with new hiphop fans and artists. All I want to know is what are they teaching kids in school? Usually, I feel people are being a little rough on Soulja Boy. But this is an article from hiphopdx.com about comments he made on BET’s “Black Carpet” show. Seems he wanted to thank slave masters for his success. I know he’s young, but come on. He needs a straight jab to the face.

You know Amy Winehouse would be a hot chick if she didn’t smoke so much crack. This is an article from Sohh.com about a couple in England arrested for giving drugs to Winehouse. They also filmed her smoking crack and sold the recording for cash. What’s wrong with people. Let addicts smoke crack in peace. In the words of Whitney Houston, “Crack is wack!”

This might be too much for some of y’all. This is that grime music straight from London UK. This cut is off Wiley’s mixtape Tunnel Vision. If you’re close-minded and too deep into that commercial BS this might not be for you. If you like good music, give a try.

Sometimes a classic should be left alone. The Last Dragon is such a film. Is Hollywood running out of ideas? According to hiphopdx.com Sam Jackson will play the role of Sho’Nuff. I don’t know, maybe they can make this work. This is one of my favorite movies of all times.

Too many labels still believe they can sue their way out of the music industry’s problems. As more people buy less CD’s and instead get their music online, those who take advantage of this new development will prosper. It seems Warner Music may be one of them. Here’s an article with Edgar Bronfman talking about Warner’s future in online music. He believes Warner Music should be proactive in changing with time. Let’s hope his peers do the same.

I still don’t know what to make of this dude. I like many of the tracks he’s done so far, but didn’t like his live performance. Maybe it was an off day. This song got me interested in him again. It’s always good to know that good hiphop is being made. 9th Wonder blessed these dudes with a nice track. I wonder if 9th Wonder still using Fruity Loops to make his beats? According to Soulja Boy, he was joking when he made the slave master comment. How do you joke about something like that? He said he was trying to be funny and the whole situation has been blown out of proportion. Man, your career is blown out of proportion. You on borrowed time Soulja Boy. Unless you somehow develop rap skills, your career will be over soon. I predict he’s washed-up by 20.

slim-thug

It’s official. Synthesizers have invaded hiphop big time. It started with crunk and polow da don. Then Kanye got in on it. Soon hiphop songs are going to sound like electronic music. With that said, this is a tight song by Slim Thug. This will most definitely be played on the radio very soon if not already. Great beat and great lyrics.

Toure talks about the interview he did with Soulja Boy when the infamous remarks about slave masters. Maybe I’m talking about something that isn’t important, but thanking the slave masters for bring inslaved Africans to America just seems ignorant. If Soulja was making a joke he should have made sure Toure knew that. As you can tell, I’m not a fan of his. Everyone has the right to make the kind of music they want to make and I have the right not to like it.

I’ve been listening to a few tracks from Kanye West’s new album. The production is very good with a electro 1980′s feel. Alot of synthesizers. But he’s singing. Why do rappers when they reach a certain level in their career decide the most logical option is to start singing. In Kanye’s case he’s using Auto-Tune on his voice. Speaking about Auto-Tune, how long will it be before T-Pain start calling out artists doing this. They invading his territory. I know artist before him used it, but he’s the one that brought it back. If everyone is doing it, what will make T-Pain unique?

Andre from Outkast did it and created a record that received critical acclaim. Queen Latifah made a jazz album. What’s the allure? Why not push hiphop to new boundaries? I was listening thinking, how tight he would sound spitting over these tracks. Maybe its a new challenge. A new artistic direction. What ever happen to becoming the best emcee you can be? Is emceeing really dead? I must be living in the past because it doesn’t seem like most people care.

Pretty soon Hiphop will become R&B. Oh wait, it already has.

the-roots

According to Allhiphop.com, Roots will be Late Night’s house band when Jimmy Fallon takes over the show from Conan O’Brien. Conan will become the new host for the Tonight Show, taking over the reins from Jay Leno. I don’t blame The Roots. Think about all the touring they’ve done since their career began. Maybe they will have a chance to live normal lives. I’m already liking Late Night with Jimmy Fallon.

You can say what you want, but Luda, Nas and Jay are the best spitters in the game right now. When they want to, they can murder a track. Just wish the dude who posted this track didn’t have to talk so much over the song. They say they don’t rap for the cars and chains. They do it for hiphop. They do it for hiphop. Damn, Kanye got me. After listening to this song a couple of times, I have to co-sign it. He’s singing, but it works here. Maybe I have to accept rappers wanting to be singers too. Or maybe it’s not singing because he using that T-Pain on his voice. Either way if you haven’t heard this on the radio yet, you will. Be prepared for the Kanye West hurricane that will be hitting your radio and MTV really soon.

http://www.hiphopdx.com/index/audio/id.5909/title.kanye-west-heartless-unmastered

What was he thinking about when he did this one. I like the beat, but the lyrics are all over the place. Maybe other people might like it. I don’t. He should have done something else with this one. The name of this track is called Robocop.
